hey guys

so these last 4 days have been hectic for me. we have rookie camp for marching band for the upcoming freshmen. it starts at 8 AM but in band time it starts at 7:45 AM and ends at 3PM. when we got there though, it was all the DIs (drill instructors. like me)! then a few rookies came.. LATE. like, an hour late, no kidding. so there are only 4 rookies, and about 16 DIs. well, if there are rookies then there has to be rookie camp.

day 1: just instructions, teaching the basic commands like detail, attention, and horns up. we got to go home early since we had some changes in the music.

day 2: taught them moving forward, 8 to 5s (move 5 yards in 8 steps), and backwards marching. this trumpet rookie was awful. x__x i mean, i wasn't perfect my freshman year but MAN he just doesn't get it. he's not anywhere near his brother. (ironically his brother marching perfectly from freshman year until he graduated. great player too.) i felt bad for him. i think he almost cried a few times. there were alot of rookies my freshman year so i didn't get much attention and stuff, but the 4 rookies there get ALL the attention. it must be nerve racking.

day 3: taught flanks, slides, and box drills. strangely, the rookies caught on quicker. just didn't listen to commands much and screwed up. the music edits were finally done and we were able to play. mr. richards (we just call him richards) our director, told us to call up the other vets so we could see how the music sounded. it was really good so he let us out 30 minutes early. we also went to watch DCI (Drum Corps International) world championship quarterfinals live from AMC theater. this was the top 4 results:

1. Blue Devils - 97.6
2. The Cavaliers - 97.0
3. Phantom Regiment - 96.6 (?)
4. Carolina Crown - 96.0

day 4: just went over everything we learned earlier and taught the circle drill. we ewre done teaching all the basics by 10AM. we just did a run-through of the woodwind feature and went home at noon! it was great.

i really can't wait until band camp, it's gonna be so much fun! but i am not looking forward to not being able to get online or draw much ): real band camp is 13 HOURS LONG FROM 8AM TO 9 PM. EVERYDAY FOR 2 WEEKS.
